Are aphids taking over your plants? Ladybirds can come to the rescue! ๐Ÿž

Creating a habitat that attracts natural predators, such as ladybirds and their larvae, is an effective and natural way to deal with aphids.

Find out more in this video with RHS Entomologist, Benjamin Brough.

If you can leave a large patch of nettles in the garden where ladybird larvae thrive

Using biopesticides is gentle on beneficials/pollinators and attracts them to your yard. It also helps cover for the beneficials until they arrive, and also beneficials won't take care of every kind of plant. They are very selective. Beneficials have their favorites and prefer to take care of those favorite plants over others. So biopesticides also fill in the gap of the plants the beneficials won't do pest control on.

One of the reasons I always encourage people to create wildlife friendly gardens. The little helpers often do a better job than we do.

They are just enjoying their feast, rest control is minimum and of no use

@105estate Double check what insect you mean by white fly, although white fly is related to aphid, they are also a different insect. People occasionally mix up the white shed skins of aphids as white fly; first step is to get a magnifying glass out and check what insect you have. We've sent you a link with more information!

Who knew ladybirds were the original pest control squad? Nature always has our back! ๐Ÿžโœจ

Excellent to see the RHS advocating leaving nature to do her job! Ladybirds and other beneficial insects will come, IF you give them time. I had a new plum sapling that was covered in greenfly. I didn't want to use any chemicals in my garden so I just left them but made sure the roots were well watered and fed with seaweed extract. The tree survived. The next year it was stronger and then I noticed that the ladybirds had come. Yes it took a year but now I've always got them there in the garden completing their life cycle. Greenfly and blackfly will not kill a healthy plant.
