Imagine owning a little bookstore with a cafe tucked away in one corner, the warm fragrance of coffee drifting through the aisles, sunlight falling between shelves, and the quiet rustle of pages filling the air.
Wouldn’t that kind of life put a smile on your face? ☕️📖
That’s exactly what Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookshop felt like to me.
After a setback leaves her questioning the life she has been living, Yeong-ju decides to open the bookstore she has always dreamed of. What begins as a bookstore slowly becomes something much more, a place where people come and go, stories intertwine, and strangers gradually become a little community, a little family.
There is something so gentle about this book. It doesn’t rush anywhere. The atmosphere it created in my mind was so peaceful and comforting that I found myself wishing I could step inside those pages and never leave. The writing put me in some kind of trance, quiet, dreamy, and almost enchanting.
But beneath all that warmth, the book talks about something painfully real: burnout.
I loved how naturally the author explores the pressure to always be doing something. To stay busy. To be productive. Even a quiet Sunday can feel like a day wasted if we spend it watching a movie, lying in bed, or simply doing nothing.
But what if doing nothing isn’t wasting a day?
What if resting is also living?
What if we don’t have to constantly achieve something to deserve our time?
I hope we all give ourselves permission to slow down a little.
To rest without guilt.
To live without rushing.
And, perhaps most importantly, to make room for a life that actually feels like ours. 🤎📖
