I spent a very large portion of my life thinking being a good woman meant being easy to deal with. Pleasant. Available. And NEVER too much trouble.

So when I started saying no, changing my mind, setting boundaries, or just doing something differently than someone wanted me to do… my nervous system acted like I had committed a federal crime.

That’s the part nobody really talks about when they tell women to “set boundaries.” The boundary is not usually the hardest part.

The hardest part is surviving the feeling that comes after it. The urge to send the text or explain.

Here’s the thing. Discomfort is not an emergency.
Someone being disappointed in you does not mean you did something wrong. It does not make you selfish, difficult, angry, dramatic, or hard to love. Sometimes it just means they wanted something from you and you said no. That’s it.

And every time you sit through that discomfort without abandoning yourself, you get a little stronger.

So if you are a recovering people pleaser, a woman learning how to set boundaries, or somebody trying to build self trust for the first time, consider this your reminder… You are allowed to disappoint people and still be a good person. 🩷
