Yes! A year ago I was traveling for a marathon and then surgery a week later. It was overwhelming at the time but lined up my health for where I am today!

As someone who loves the ocean and often uses this space to speak up for its protection, I think it’s equally important to speak up about the safety of those who share it with us 🤍 Something I’ve been thinking about throughout all of this is how it can be so difficult for women to come forward, especially in small communities, unfamiliar countries, or situations involving people in positions of trust and influence. And I think what we’re seeing with so many women sharing their experiences is that speaking up isn’t always just about seeking justice for themselves. Sometimes it’s about protecting the next person, supporting someone else’s story, or making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen again. I was recently part of a conversation about these issues, a guy curiously asked why not more women report incidents when they happen There are so many reasons someone might not feel safe reporting an experience when it happens. Fear, uncertainty, shame, possible repercussions, or simply not knowing where to turn. That’s why accessible support systems, clear reporting procedures and accountability are SOOO important. I hope these conversations lead to meaningful changes within the ocean community, and that we continue creating spaces where people feel safe, both in the water and out of it.
