Every body is a dancer’s body. 💛
On Monday 26 October, dance professionals came together at Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham for Body Perspectives: Re-evaluating the Ideal, a day of honest conversation about body image in dance.
What stood out most was how much brilliant work is already happening. From research with 339 young dancers to schools leading cultural change, from clinical expertise to lived experience shared with courage, people across the dance ecology are already shifting the focus from appearance to artistry, health and wellbeing.
Some conversations were challenging. But the energy in the room was optimistic, and delegates left with new connections and ideas to take back to their own settings.
Now is a moment of real opportunity. By connecting, sharing what works and learning from one another, we can move from awareness to prevention.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, spoke, volunteered and helped make the day what it was. We’re planning educational webinars and a guidance tool for dance organisations, so watch this space.
