The Redondo Beach Pier is home to the only Glass Bottom Boat on the Los Angeles County mainland, and most people have no idea it’s there.

This one has been giving tours out of Redondo Beach for more than two decades, built in 1995 and inspected annually as a U.S. Coast Guard vessel. You start on the top deck, watching California sea lions play in the water, then head down into the underwater viewing chamber, where two enormous windows open up the marine life below. Captain Jake Mark, a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and lifelong South Bay local, runs the whole thing, and the ride lasts about 45 minutes from start to finish.

It’s a true hidden gem in Redondo Beach, the kind of South Bay experience worth building a whole day around.
