🌊 How much do you really know about your own harbor?

Last Friday, I picked up my camera and started discovering things about our own King Harbor that I honestly had NO clue about! And I have a feeling I’m not the only one. 👀

In this video, Captain Jake introduces us to outrigger canoes, @lanakila_outrigger_cc including OC6 canoes, and shares some interesting information about the different types. It’s the kind of local knowledge you might never learn unless you get out there and explore!

Over the next week, I’m sharing more of what I discovered around our own Redondo Beach Harbor. There’s SO much to see and learn, I wish I could share it all in one day! 😂🌊

🌊 Some connections just make sense. 💙

Here in King Harbor, Captain Jake of Glass Bottom Boat @redondogbb has a front-row seat to the incredible marine life that makes Redondo Beach so special. With Marine Mammal Care Center @marinemammalcare planning a new home closer to our harbor, we’re looking forward to what this next chapter could mean for our local sea lions and the community that cares about them. 🦭

Different roles, a shared love for marine life, and one amazing South Bay community. Here’s to a future where caring for our ocean neighbors brings us even closer together! 🌊

Sometimes being on the water means more than taking people out for a good time. ❤️🌊 @redondogbb

Lily and MJ noticed a cormorant struggling with fishing line, a hook and a weight wrapped around his foot and brought it to Captain Jake’s attention.

After an attempt to catch him in the water, the little guy made his way onto the dock. Luckily, the weight fell through a crack, giving Captain Jake the chance to safely catch him and remove the fishing hook.

And then… he swam away. 🐦🌊

One small rescue, thanks to people who cared enough to speak up. Thank you, Lily and MJ, for helping look out for our King Harbor wildlife. ❤️
