Leadership is about bringing people together and doing the work to move a vision forward. This next chapter for Chicago Public Schools will require collaboration, accountability, and a relentless focus on the students and families we serve.

I’m grateful to have served alongside Dr. Che ‘Rhymefest’ Smith on the Chicago Board of Education and even more grateful for his trust in my leadership. taken in Chicago, Illinois by @rhymefestforcps

🚌 PULL THE BUS UP: the full song + video is HERE! 🚌

You saw the clips. Now catch all 4 minutes. 🎶

I support yellow buses for general education students AND students with special needs. The school bus is where friendships are made, social cues are learned, and learning begins before kids ever walk into the building.

On the Board I’ll advocate and work with Springfield for more special ed transportation funding. I’ll keep fighting to pull the yellow bus up for every kid!

S/O @farleyjackmasterfunk for this classic road song 🙌🏾 by @rhymefestforcps

What would make your school better?

The music room open. A team. A club that stays late. A counselor who actually knows your name. A safe walk home.

Somebody decides that. It's called the school board — and on Nov 3 the grown-ups in your house pick who's on it.

So tell them. At dinner, in the car, on the walk to school.

Your school. Your voice. Their vote.

Endorsed by Ironworkers Local 63.

Local 63 is the architectural and ornamental local — the curtain walls, the stairs and railings, the ornamental metal you walk past every day downtown. Those ironworkers started somewhere, and for a lot of them it was a South Side classroom with a teacher who noticed they were good with their hands. Che is fighting for the shop classes, the apprenticeship pipelines, and the funding for technical career exposure that turn that spark into a career. by @rhymefestforcps

Endorsed by the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council.

Every school building in District 10 was built by union hands and the next generation of carpenters is sitting in a CPS classroom right now. Che believes career and technical education belongs in every high school, so a student who wants a trade can see the path from a shop class to a union card. by @rhymefestforcps

Somebody taught you to read this.

Every one of us can picture the teacher. The one who learned your name before they had to. Who stayed after. Who saw something in you that you couldn't see yet.

To every CPS teacher doing that right now, in a year that has asked a lot of you, thank you. Not just today.

Endorsed by SEIU Local 73.

Local 73 members are the people who make a school a school — the custodians, security officers, bus aides, and support staff who are there before the first bell and after the last one. When Che talks about safe, well-run buildings and the staff who keep them that way, these are the workers he's talking about.

Proud to have SEIU Local 73 in our corner for Sub-District 10a. by @rhymefestforcps

Honored to have the endorsement of the Chicago Federation of Labor — over 300 affiliated unions representing more than half a million working men and women across Chicago and Cook County.

Working families depend on public schools, and they deserve a board member who shows up for them. That's the commitment Che "Rhymefest" Smith brought to his first year on the Board, and it's the commitment he's asking District 10a to renew on November 3.

Thank you to the CFL and its member unions for their support.

If you turn 18 on or before November 3, you can register to vote right now. At 17. That's the law in Illinois, and most people have no idea.

So here's the part that matters: this November, Chicago elects its school board. The people who decide what your building gets — your counselors, your clubs, whether the music room opens — are on your ballot.

Online registration closes October 18. It takes about two minutes on your phone.
