OH!Tanglung at The High Street Studios for KL Festival 2026Do you still remember the way you weave when the seasons arrive?Come, sit for a while with OH!Tanglung, now until 12 June ’26OH!Tanglung is an intimate installation by Sumay Cheah, presented as a prelude to OH!Tenang: Tanglung Stories, unfolding in Penang later this year.Paying homage to everyday craft, shaped by the hands of ordinary people, the installation draws inspiration from the Wau, traditional kite from Malaysia. Skeletal Tanglung structures are suspended in space, each line gently held together as one would bind a Wau, formed through thread and Chinese knotting.Inspired by my late grandfather,and his seasons of weaving as a way of life.Time was never measured,only felt in how things form, age, remain, and renew.Take home a flower bookmarkIn collaboration Studio Kozé whose scent fills the space and by using OtherHalf’s unused threads, OH!Kindness Ripples invites visitors to take home a small flower bookmark, a gesture of quiet blessing and exchange.#OHTanglung #OHKindnessRipples #KLFest #MyThinkCity#ArtsFAS2026 YayasanHasanah by @sumayc

A knot given, a haiku shared is a Blessed Encounter, a mini collaboration between @aayuhomes and installation artist @sumayc , at Aayu Heritage in conjunction with the celebration of Lunar New Year.Thread between two palms,A blessing finds its moment,Joy in passing hands.Inspired by Mizuhiki knots, formed from delicate cords long woven into gestures of gratitude and auspicious beginnings, Blessed Encounter unfolds as an offering.Since ancient times, Mizuhiki has carried well wishes from giver to receiver, giving intention its form. In this work, a living plant becomes a vessel of exchange, adorned with knotted bookmarks.Each one tied by hand, each one holding a quiet blessing.One by one, these scented knots are gifted to those who chance upon this encounter, meeting the right time and the right space.Through this simple act of giving and receiving, @sumayc invites us to remember that happiness often rests in small exchanges — in the warmth of a shared moment, in a thread passed gently from one hand to another.These scented knots will be given out to our in-house guests upon the end of Lunar New Year celebration as a small souvenir and quiet reminder of Penang. ❤️—————Blessed Encounter is created from additional threads generously gifted by @studiokoze and forms part of OtherHalf Studio’s expanding body of work, OH! Mizuhiki Knotted Bookmarks. Sumay Cheah, an artist from Penang, Malaysia, has joined NUMPANG International Residency from 4 November to 3 December 2025. She experiences Jakarta as a weave in motion: threads of craft, movement, and memory interwoven into a shifting tapestry. She explores weaving as both a meditative practice and a metaphor for connection between art and design, tradition and innovation. A short conversation with the artist @sumayc .This year, @1000tinyartworks will be held from 8-12 October at Hin Bus Depot. It is an initiative aimed at giving all local artists an equal platform and voice, in which each artist will contribute 10 pieces of artworks, sized at 10cmx 10cm.As a supporter of the event, Aayu will be acquiring some artworks to be displayed at some of our guesthouses across George Town.
