DEAR DAVE, photograph of the day🥞by MICKALENE THOMAS from the Dear Dave, online review by Eleanor Oakes ✍️ “Against long histories of scrutiny, regulation, and violence directed against Black, queer, and trans bodies, Thomas presents her subjects as vast, adorned and at rest. Their beauty and repose become forms of resistance” @eleanoroakes @mickalenethomas @theshepherddetroit @jackshainman @yanceyrichardsongallery 🎱. LINK IN BIO

Raising the final $4,000 unlocks the match and turns your $25 donation into $50.

With thanks to our local and global communities- and to @michiganbusiness for making this match opportunity for a small artist-run org possible.

Let’s dance in the garden, dye under the moon, and help the plants take back some concrete always.

A garden is never just a garden.
The Garden Lab for Eco-Creative Futures is growing a space for artists, ecologists, community organizers, and dreamers to gather, compost old systems, and imagine livable futures together.

If you believe creative practice can help cultivate new ways of being with the ecosystem and each other, we’d love your support at any level. Link in Bio. Thank you!

Mother/Vessel, featuring work by @eleanoroakes and @katie.shulman, is now on view at @riverhousearts in Toledo through June 20th.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our opening this past weekend 🙌

“In 𝕄𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣/𝕍𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕖𝕝, @eleanoroakes and @katie.shulman present precarious sculptures and photographic assemblages exploring the everyday terrain of care — its joys and discomforts, its structures and collapses. Their work makes visible the labor of parenting, and reaches into the maternal body as a site of transformation: growth, loss, and the fetal cells that cross the placenta and remain in the body for a lifetime.”

Mother/Vessel opens @riverhousearts tomorrow, 5/9 from 6-8.

The first iteration of this show was due to open about a year ago, but at the last minute we received feedback that some of the work depicting/referencing breastfeeding was not appropriate for children. We were asked to remove it, so, we walked away.

What a difference a year makes! Eleanor and I are thrilled/greatful that our work found its way to Paula and her amazing gallery.

Here’s Loie hard at work during install this week. Show is up until June 20.

Happy Mothers Day weekend to all!

At CBI, multiple tendrils unfurl at once-
not separately, but as a living field.

One fosters deep practices ON DURATION, artists stalling, stuttering, suspending, co-creating portals beyond immediacy.

Another gathers and voices—writers sharing space, exchanging, witnessing, unlocking stories toward NEXT CHAPTERS.

Another listens—between soil, leaf, branch, birdsong, butterfly: a Garden Lab for Eco-Creative Futures, rooting in relation with ecosystem.

Across our interwoven tracks what lays fallow & blossoms isn’t ours—
it’s something we’re making together, with you.

CBI invites you into art, ecology, and community as shared praxis—
time we labor for, steward, create together.

Come closer.
Dig deep.
Let’s see what we unearth.
