POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Canteen @canteen_frome is back up and running this coming Tuesday at Trinity Hall in Frome.
I love this project for loads of reasons. It was designed and created as part of the @futureshedfrome residency programme on climate and health that I worked on. And one of the key things people loved about it was eating together. This - sadly - is unusual in the uk but it’s not in Europe where lots of people and places have a culture of long tables.

I don’t work with food much except in my own kitchen, but this project has taught me so much about social eating, food resilience, local food systems and global ones, affordability, producers, the working out of quantities for 150 servings!! - i love it when you get insights into how other people do their work and make it all happen. And the @fromefoodnetwork is great!

I grew up on a farm in Witham Friary so there’s a curious loop around to local food for me and stints doing FOH in cafes in my 20s to get by between arts jobs.

On Tuesday last I spent a lovely afternoon with artist Cherry @cherrytruluck in her studio helping to reshape her Canteen artworks / visuals for easier hanging in the space.
It’s such a pleasure to work with this team of people - Hugh, Cherry, Tom, Lyndsey - to get Canteen up and running again. Plus there’s going to be a resource coming out in 2027 with a ‘how we did it’ for other towns and communities wanting to run social eating pay what you can pop ups. And there’ll be opportunity for people to join the organising team for Canteen going forward.

I’m on FOH on Tuesday 27 October so if you’re around in Frome, come and eat from 5pm to 7pm (or until we run out). Follow @canteen_frome for menu, pay what you can details and all info.

How to mend your clothes

Come and enjoy a relaxed social atmosphere of mending your clothes.

Two new workshop dates as part of our Get Frome Mending project.

Saturday 14th November
Saturday 5th December
11am-1pm
Frome Library, upstairs

If you would like specific advice or support with mending, book into the dedicated small group session.
Holes in your clothes? Button fallen off? Tear in a favourite shirt? Things lying about waiting for that mend? Here’s your opportunity to fix them in this hands on session.
Volunteer stitchers and menders from the Everyone Needs Pockets can help work out what needs doing and how to fix it, supporting you to mend your own clothes.
What we can help with:
Buttons and fasteners
Taking up hems and some fitting adjustments
Mending and darning holes
Advice on how you might repair a piece of clothing, including zips.

- 24 November
- 26 January
- 23 February

Enterprising Together was a fun, engaging, and sometimes pretty confronting journey about getting out of your comfort zone.

It offered a safe space where I could be myself, be honest about challenges, and share ideas with a diverse group of lovely and creative people.

I’d been self-employed before, but the course helped me break through some barriers and start again in a way that’s been more experimental, more fun, and more effective than working on my own.

Edventure also helped me take another idea and turn it into a community project that’s now starting to gain momentum.

In just 12 weeks, I’ve learned how to develop my own business and create something good for my community.

At a time when I was still new to the area, it helped me connect and put down roots in Frome, introducing me to people and projects that make Frome really unique.

I got to spend Friday mornings with genuine and passionate people and learn a lot from them. I’m happy knowing these relationships will continue, long past the end of the course.

I’m grateful to everyone at Edventure for their time and energy. I hope to take that brave, reflective, community-focused approach into the things I make going forward.

Just starting out making change in your rural community? If you're finding it magic, and messy, you're not alone.

We've made something just for you. It's the stuff we wish we'd had when we started, made to help you spend less time with a search engine and more time with your community.

Rural Changemakers is a free new resource library, built from five years of community-led action in and around Frome and co-created with others doing this work on the ground across the South West.

At its heart are short, honest audio conversations with people who have been where you are, talking openly about what worked, what didn't, and what kept them going.

You can hear them on running your first community event, connecting with your GP surgery, enhancing local democracy, engaging your community, and more. Two companion directories sit alongside, gathering the practical things you might need to get things moving - from set-up to fundrasiing, volunteers, events and more.

Our biggest insight from putting this together: while our hard-won village or market town actions can seem small scale, when we join up beyond our local boundaries, they create a much larger force for change.

Have a listen, have a browse. The link is in our bio, and we'd love to know what connects for you.

Coming up in June…

✨Network Meet Up
Friday 12 June
10am-12.30pm
Edventure, Park Hill Drive

Come and join us this month for a clothes clinic. We will collectively help each other and talk about what is next for items of clothing. Bring along any clothes that you don’t know what to do with next. Can they be mended? Can they be upcycled? Can they be used for anything at all or do they need to be thrown away? Can they be recycled? Where is the best place to throw them away?
We will be planning for Sustainable Fashion Week 2026 and talking about more projects and ideas in the meeting.
Everyone welcome
