Does technology contribute to climate stress?

At our national climate convening, our panel session “Reframing Climate Leadership Through Technology” examined how technology can support climate action, from improving access to environmental information to helping communities respond to changing conditions. The conversation also highlighted the need to make these solutions accessible and ensure women, young people, and persons with disabilities have a meaningful role in shaping the decisions that affect their futures.

Ultimately, technology is a tool, not the entire solution. What matters is how we use it to make climate action more inclusive, practical, and responsive to people’s needs.

Technology is powerful, but without data, there’s no story.

At #DARE2026, Ibiso shares why data matters and that beyond the tools we build, the stories we tell must be backed by evidence.

Can technology solve problems that policy cannot fix?

At Panel Session 2 of #DARE2026, “Reframing Climate Leadership Through Technology,” moderated by Tsema Ede, speakers challenged us to think beyond technology as a silver bullet for climate action.

Ameedat Abdulsalam reminded us that participation does not always translate to influence, emphasising that capacity must be backed by resources, not just passion, and that young people need policy literacy to drive change.

Jennifer Abomnger @jenny_the_inclusion_baddie called on climate communicators to be intentional about their audiences, ensuring that information reaches people through channels they understand.

Ibiso Ikiroma-Owiye @ib_henshaw encouraged young people to use the tools available to them to inspire change.

@ken_henshaw challenged us to recognise that data is not neutral. He highlighted the need for ecofeminists to take control of the data being collected and warned that technology can deepen exclusion, particularly between rural and urban communities.

The takeaway? Technology can accelerate climate action, but without inclusive access, informed leadership, adequate resources, and effective policies, its impact will remain limited.

Climate leadership is not just about the tools we have, but how intentionally and inclusively we use them.
What role should technology play in shaping a more just and sustainable future?
