September was about so much more than what happened on the field 🧡

From Churchill Fellowship reports and university graduations to book launches, podcast features, leadership appointments and community workshops, our athletes spent September leading, advocating and inspiring in every direction 💪

The scoreboard is just one part of the story. And our athletes prove that every single month 🌟

When do you actually move from pelvic floor downregulation to strengthening? 👀

There isn’t a magic number of weeks I wait before progressing someone. I’m looking at criteria.

Can they contract through full range? Can they do that in different positions and under load? Are their symptoms improving? That information helps guide what comes next.

And when other clinicians are involved, collaboration matters too. I work alongside EPs and, with the patient’s consent, communicate the pelvic health goals we’re working towards so they can help progress the exercise side within their scope.

Criteria over arbitrary timelines 🤝

Thanks for the great question! A little snippet from the Q&A at my recent pelvic health workshop with KaMana ❤️

During my recent workshop for @kamanacommunity , I was asked if I’m a bit of a “physio unicorn” because the combination of sports physio + pelvic health physio is still a considered relatively new skillset 🦄

I actually found my way into pelvic health through working in sport. I kept seeing how prevalent pelvic health symptoms were in female athletes and realised there was a gap in my own knowledge. If I wanted to better support the women I was working with, I needed to upskill.
That eventually led me to pelvic health, and now I get to bring both areas together in the way I work with women and athletes.

I’m so glad to see more clinicians seeking training in this space much earlier in their careers now. Hopefully sports + pelvic health physio becomes a lot less “unicorn” in the future.

♥️ KNOW YOUR BODY. KNOW YOUR POWER ♥️

Today our young female athletes had the incredible opportunity to learn from Harriet Brown, legendary World Ironwoman Champion, Accredited Exercise Physiologist and co-founder of @kamanacommunity . 🌊💪

Harriet led an incredibly valuable session on periods, the menstrual cycle and female athlete health - opening up conversations that are so important for young female athletes but are often not talked about enough. 🩸♥️

The young ladies learnt about the different phases of the menstrual cycle, what’s normal and what’s not, and how understanding and tracking their cycle can help them better understand their training, recovery, energy levels and overall wellbeing. 🧠💪

Most importantly, it was about giving our female athletes the knowledge, confidence and tools to understand their bodies and feel empowered in their sport.

A huge thank you to Harriet for sharing her knowledge, personal experiences and passion for helping the next generation of female athletes. What an amazing and educational session! ♥️
