@seam_collective Sept Textile Love Day 30: Pick your favourite post

Well, with the wealth of amazing talent & incredible words shared this month, clearly there were way too many to pick just one! So I hope you’ll forgive this compilation 😳

Day 3: Colour - beautiful natural dye colours from Michelle 😍 @mikki.1964
Day 7: History - how could I not be moved by Hilary’s post about her hand crank machine, especially when sharing mine previously owned by my grandmother on Memory day ♥️ @hilarytaylor00
Day 11: Language - I couldn’t fail to be moved by Julie’s post & the courage to show her vulnerability that actually inspired me to change my own planned post that day. Art truly can say something that is otherwise unthinkable, unspeakable 🫂 @julieheatonartist
Day 13: Rethink - I couldn’t fail to have mentioned many of Anna’s posts this month, as the incredible attention to detail in her beautifully observed wool painting is truly inspiring & has certainly given me food for thought on my own use of fibre 🤩 @anna_kelleher_art
Day 24: Oversize - Mandy’s epic embroidered mix tape project is both ambitious in scale & inspiring as a theme. Music, and most especially certain lyrics, have always held special meaning for me which is why I think her project resonates so well with me & I think it’s actually ingenius! 🎤 @madgeface

There were so many more posts I could have mentioned & I’m hugely grateful to @seam_collective for organising it. It has certainly ensured I take time to look at my work, sometimes through a different lens, or consider it more deeply & it has definitely helped me be braver about sharing my work more.

It’s really something special to see everyone coming together to post & the different interpretations of the same prompt word each day. If you haven’t already, check out the hashtags to see more of the work & words shared.

I can’t thank you enough, those of you who interacted with my posts & even followed me, I truly appreciate you all! Now I have to find my own prompts to share for the next month . . . and the next . . . and next (although it may not be with such frequency! ) 🤣

Well that's another @seam_collective #SeptTextileLove26 complete with this post and as always it's been fascinating seeing everyone's work, so much so that it is always difficult, not to say impossible, to choose one favourite. Therefore I'm going for two, @paulenecattle and @mikki.1964 so I hope they don't mind me adding their images to this post. I really like these two pieces for quite different reasons but they tick my box. 🥰 Thank you to @seam_collective for organising and here's to next year. #SeptTextileLove26 #SeptTextileLove

Prompt: Favourite post of another’s participant’s work - Day 30

What a wonderful September it’s been! So much inspiration, the opportunity to connect with so many amazing artists, and the opportunity to see so much incredible and inspiring work. I’ve REALLY loved being a part of it.

How is it possible to pick a favourite? There are so many. Maybe to start, a favourite prompt? Some were quite challenging!

I love the prompt ‘experiment’. I love to experiment myself. I love the work of @goedesier2015 trying to clothe a box in goldwork and the work of @mikki.1964 with the repositioned red squares with their story, & their gorgeous texture, colour and visible stitching. I love @clairesteeletextiles piece posted in ‘battle’ . I love the sketched New York panorama of @nekemp that is so busy yet full of energy and life, and the ‘friendship’ piece of @sylviesew with its bonus beautiful surface texture. It seems unfair to only name these few. There are so many others that are also worthy of a mention.

What a wonderful journey it’s been - I’m so glad to have been a part of it. Thank you.

Day 30 : Favourite post by another participant…
As ever, this is my least favourite post of the month, because it’s an impossible task to pick four, never mind one!
It’s been, once again, a wonderfully rich time of textile brilliance, so thank you, Seam Collective and everyone who’s posted for so many inspiring contributions.
I’ve picked out these 4 that especially caught my eye …
@sylviesew ‘s gorgeous textural piece, one of several I admired from her; Tirzah Garwood’s fabulous embroidery, posted by @deenabeverley ; and two ‘oversized’ pieces from @drelvey and @mikki.1964 , because I feel very inspired by them to create something oversized myself!

Wow! Today we made our first long distance journey since this time last year.

I really wanted to see the exhibition, 'Time and Place' by @threadmill_textiles group. I've followed its creative members for a while, after initially stumbling across gorgeous textile artworks made by @mikki.1964 - aka, Michelle Ault.

I've been unable to get to previous exhibitions Michelle has been in due to the distance and the limitations of my precarious health. It was very touch-and-go this morning whether I'd be able to cope with both getting dressed and the journey – even after a month of "actively resting" in preparation. We decided to brake up the traveling so I could rest on the way and have a picnic. We got there in the afternoon.

We only got 2 hours in Macclesfield, but it was so worth it and I wouldn't have managed much longer. It was just enough time to view the little art exhibition and even meet the very lovely Michelle in the flesh, over tea and cake in the @silkmuseum The sun even shone for us!

I'm very ready for a long lie down now and I will probably need to go quiet online for a fair while again - just so you're aware. So I'm still here, and I'll still be online. I'm just unable to make art right now as it's too exerting. I can and will still respond to messages though on better days. Thank you so much for all those of you who've noticed my absence and stayed in touch one way or another. It really does help me deal with my isolation.💓

Michelle’s work inspired by the pattern books.

Time and place: A Celebration of the pattern book archive at Macclesfield Silk Museum - A Stitch & Mixed Media Exhibition by Threadmill.

3rd June- 25th July 2026 - Upstairs gallery

This exhibition explores the close relationship between time and place by using the Silk Museum’s pattern book archives as inspiration for a textile exhibition.

Each work brings together personal and collective history, using fabric and thread as both material and as a means of presenting an alternative viewing of the original pattern book designs.

If you’ve not visited the Silk Museum before it’s well worth a visit and you might want to book on a tour of Paradise Mill.
