At the Multicultural Leadership Initiative, we know that culture, language, faith, migration history, identity, and intergenerational knowledge all shape how communities engage with climate change. These perspectives aren’t adjacent to climate action, they are central to it.

Australia is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse countries in the world. Yet, despite more than one in three Australians identifying as culturally and linguistically diverse, over half of the climate movement does not reflect this diversity.

That needs to change.

Meaningful engagement doesn’t happen by accident. It requires time, intention, care, and investment. When we celebrate and uplift diverse voices, we build stronger climate leadership, broader public support, and the political will we need for more ambitious action.

Now more than ever, we must commit to inclusive climate solutions that reflect the communities they aim to serve.

📣 We’ve just launched our annual survey exploring multicultural perspectives on climate change. This research will help strengthen understanding, inform better policy, and support more inclusive climate engagement across Australia.

If you ask the Hellenic Museum's Oracle of Delph(ai) a question, you’d better be prepared for a cryptic, slightly smug non-answer. Some things never change. 🔮🏛️

“𝘙𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴: 𝘎𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘴” at Melbourne’s Hellenic Museum asks what we can learn from what others choose to sacrifice. The exhibition is broadly arranged by intention:
🌾 Prayers for rain and fertility
🏅 Offerings from Olympic athletes and warriors chasing glory
🔮 Festivals promising hidden knowledge
🤕 Pleas for miraculous healing

This structure reorients ritual as a practical, need-driven act, foregrounding human impulse more than divine mysticism. After all, who hasn’t silently prayed before a job interview? Or wished cosmic revenge on the guy who cut you off in traffic?

The gallery plays to this human element, rendering each object an act of longing. It's especially clear in the 'Divination' section, where ancient prayers to the Oracle at Dodona are read aloud in Greek: 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘺? 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘺?

💻 The AI-supported Oracle itself is extremely clever, but telling. Visitors ask a question via a QR code, and patiently wait to receive the Oracle's cryptic wisdom on-screen. But while it gestures at ancient practice, the Delph(ai) Oracle demands nothing: no sacrifice, no preparation, no offering. Logistics aside (how 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 one ask paying visitors for tribute?), perhaps this is part of the point.

Just as ancient rituals demanded material offerings, we still offer physical tokens today: coins in fountains, incense at ancestral altars, flowers at graves, even blood in donation. But increasingly, our sacrifices are intangible: we offer our privacy to algorithms, give our attention to causes.

Our altars look different now but the impulse hasn’t changed. 𝘙𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴 doesn’t just ask what the ancients gave to their gods. It invites us to consider what we give to ours.
