Big congratulations to @shandamdwrites! 🎉

Shanda started writing in Project Write Now's memoir classes, then joined book inc as a founding member and one of our Memoir Incubator PALs.

Now she’s featured in Poets & Writers’ “5 Over 50” in the November/December 2026 issue, the magazine’s eleventh annual celebration of debut authors age fifty and over.

Shanda is a family medicine physician and a native Philadelphian. She writes about where life, race, and medicine meet. Her memoir, "Brother Epistles: A Sister’s Memoir," is out now from Split/Lip Press.

We’ve been cheering her on from the start, and seeing her work recognized on a national stage means the world to our community.

Read her essay in the issue at www.pw.org.

There’s no deadline on becoming a writer. 🐙 Join our writing community at bookinc.org.

It was such an honor to facilitate a creative writing workshop hosted by @teenartsnj in my role as a Community Outreach Facilitator with @projectwritenow🩵💛 and the wonderful @meredithavakian. 🙏🙏We incorporated games, playfulness, breath, and movement to invite creativity, connection, and self-expression through writing. Most definitely my favorite way to guide students into writing. 👩🏻‍🏫✍️✨ Thank you to @asbury_book_cooperative for providing the wonderful space!

We’re so proud to celebrate our longtime client and friend, Jennifer Devi Chauhan, founder of Project Write Now, on receiving the Red Bank YMCA Red Triangle Award. ❤️

For more than a decade, Jen and Project Write Now have helped people in our community find their voices, build confidence, and develop skills that create opportunities in school, work, and life.

At Solari, we’re especially proud to support people who are doing meaningful work and making our community a better place. Jen is a wonderful example of what happens when passion, purpose, and a commitment to others come together.

Congratulations, Jen! This recognition is so well deserved. 🎉

For me the perfect person to bring a message of hope, joy, and democracy to the festival was Richard Blanco @poetrichardblanco A hero of mine. A dream come true.

And I could think of no one better to introduce him than my mentor, @edigiunta —with her words, her spirit, and her extraordinary way of articulating what needed to be said to set the stage for him.

For me, attending the festival was like returning as a student, ready to learn and to take in all that so many were joyfully ready to give. My most important teachers, however, are our youth poets, whose passion, courage, and dedication continually astonish me.

Ethan Rodriguez, Maya Rosalky, Aicha Ousman, Lana Oliver & Caleah Ragland, Emalyn Donovan and all the students who attended, reminded me of why we do this.

I may, in some way, be their mentor, but they are the ones who teach me. They teach me to be brave. They teach me to imagine our world as something incredibly beautiful. They teach me to look again—to see the world through their eyes—and to stand beside them with a true and abiding hope.

And I know I will never stop learning from Edi, from Richard Blanco and my colleagues-not only about the craft of writing, but about something deeper: the sacredness of the written word, and the power it holds. That power is something we must, at all cost, protect and cherish.

Because words can give us courage. They can make us see one another. They can hold memory, create possibility, and remind us of what we must never surrender. To be entrusted with words is, in its own way, to be entrusted with a piece of our humanity.
That is what I carried with me from the festival: the profound joy of learning, the courage of young people, the wisdom of my teachers, and the belief that hope is something we create together—and must continue to put into words.

With the wind on our backs let’s march forward together.
