Our last workshop of the summer is on Saturday 22nd August, 1-4pm

The theme is Inversions…
What they are.
Learning how to learn them, what comes first, how to work towards a specific pose.
What contraindications are there?
What to practice instead.

Suitable for all regular students.
Book online via our website.

Being impressed vs. being inspired…

My teacher @wyevalleyyoga discussed this in our last couple of classes, whilst we were demonstrating some backbends.

I’ve been thinking about the difference between the two for me and I think often it comes down to where your attention goes.

Being impressed is typically focused on the other person or thing. You notice their skill, success or achievement and think “that’s amazing”. Because it involves comparison, it can easily become entangled with the ego: “They’re better than me,” or “I wish people saw me that way.” It can lead to admiration, envy, or a desire for status.

Being inspired is typically focused on what becomes possible for you. Instead of stopping at admiration, something in you is activated: “If they can do that, maybe I can grow too.” The emphasis shifts from comparison to possibility.

To feel impressed: The ego often evaluates and ranks. It asks, “Where do I stand relative to them?” This can inflate the ego (“I’m as good as they are”) or deflate it (“I’ll never measure up”).
To feel inspired: The ego tends to recede because the focus is on learning, creating, or becoming. The question becomes, “What can I take from this?” rather than “How do I compare?”

In Yoga class and life, I believe it’s really important to catch what we’re being driven by. So that we feel moved and activated for the right reasons, it’ll last longer 💛🌞🫶.

Some common misconceptions about yoga :

1. You have to be ‘good’ at it.

If you want to learn something new eg; how to speak Spanish - would you think you already had to be good at it before you started??

2. I’m not flexible enough.

Well that’s why you come to yoga.

3. I’m too old. It’s too late to start now.

Our oldest student is 87, she started coming to our classes when she was 83.

4. Our classes might be too difficult for me.

Five out of our eleven classes a week are suitable for brand new beginners of any age/ability. In fact we LOVE people who’ve never done any yoga before ever.

Check out the boards for all our classes and contact us for help finding the right class to start with.
Have a look at our website for more information.

Love and peace

I have been teaching in Builth Wells for nearly 18 months, the students are brilliant and diverse and I appreciate everyone that walks through the door.

Here is the lovely Lindsey in Supta Padangusthasana 2 & her experience of the class;

〰️ “Danielle has a lovely teaching style and is welcoming to everyone who comes along. She is able to teach and adapt the poses so everyone can get the most from them.

…Iyengar is a bit different to other forms of yoga I’ve tried, and I prefer it – it’s generally slower with a sharp focus on form/alignment, and you hold the poses for longer (that’s where the work happens) – we use props which makes it more accessible. If you can’t reach the ground for example, you could use a block, brick or chair to bring the floor to you so that you’re not overstretching or risking injury, and can get the benefit of the asana.

…I originally found Iyengar yoga after a bad upper back injury, and its helped massively. I’m delighted that Danielle now has a class nearby that I can go to. We all leave class smiling and feeling better, even when we’ve worked really hard – thanks Danielle” 〰️

If you fancy coming along to a class, I teach every Monday 7-8pm at Llanelwedd Jubilee Hall and Wednesday 5-6pm @wyevalleyyoga
