Having a studio clear out before making new work… this little painting was one of the last pieces I made before kids’ summer holidays. I often find September is like the new year for artist parents, back to school and back to work. I have one reminder on my studio wall ‘do not let it be boring’.

I have a selection of A4 watercolours currently available in the Art Car Boot Fair online ‘play free’ event. The theme #playfree aligns with how I make these small watercolours, always playful with a lot of experimentation, testing out and freedom of ideas.
Thank you @art_car_boot_fair for being a great platform to show these works. by @catherineletteart

Beers London @beerslondon open call offers the option for artists applying to get a critique of their application from the gallery team or gallery director. I think this is a truly brilliant chance to understand as an artist how a gallerist views your work. So often we apply to these shows or submissions and receive no feedback. Thank you @kurtbeers_ for the detailed and insightful response to my work, you have given me a lot to think about, framed in a positive and encouraging format. This is one of the small pieces that formed part of the application and I take on the challenge to go larger. Over summer I’ll be stretching some sizeable canvases for a big attack! I’d encourage anyone applying to add the critique onto their application.

Perhaps it’s a good thing that recently I’ve been doing more painting than posting. After a year of living in Dorset I can now begin to see how the landscape has permeated my work, particularly the river which is ever present both calming and at times destructive.

I am delighted to be part of the ‘Micromania’ exhibition opening today at Kalkman Gallery Maastricht in conjunction with Liminal Gallery Margate.

The show brings together 80 artists with one simple challenge to present work which is a maximum size of 10 x 10 x 10 cm. Opening today the exhibition coincides with TEFAF Maastricht and all works are also listed on Artsy.

My painting ‘Fresh as a Daisy’ is 10x10 cm acrylic on canvas board. Big Thank you to Louise Fitzjohn @liminal_gallery and Hubert Kalkman @kalkman.maastricht for including my work.

I’m delighted the ‘Distorted Self’ exhibition has been extended until 20 March. It is a big thanks to CAA @contemporaryartacademy and Zavier Ellis for curating this show of Contemporary Art Academy alumni Jonathan Bennett, Richard Meaghan and myself.

The exhibition explores the distorted figure as a site of psychological tension, social pressure and inner conflict, examining how bodies become reshaped by environment, ideology and the unconscious. These are some quick installation shots of my work from the opening, I’m sorry not to have photos of the other great artwork showing so do pop by @gps_creates if you are in Soho to check it out.

Exhibition hours Monday - Friday 10am-5pm at Gramercy Park Studios 25 Great Pulteney Street London.

This painting ‘Box of wonders’ is one of my works in the ‘Distorted Self’ exhibition by Charlie Smith London at Gramercy Park Studios Soho.

The paintings I am showing explore my transition from city living to the countryside, an investigation of self and environment that is ongoing for me. This is a three person show including Jonathan Bennett and Richard Meagan curated by Zavier Ellis; “the exhibition explores the distorted figure as a site of psychological tension, social pressure and inner conflict, examining how bodies become reshaped by environment, ideology and the unconscious.”

If you are in central London do drop by, the exhibition is open Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street London W1F 9LT.

For more information about any of the works please contact @charliesmithldn .

Huge thank you to @zavierellisstudio @charliesmithldn for such a great evening to open ‘Distorted Self’ now showing at Gramercy Park Studios, London. Typically the marker of a really enjoyable time is the poor quality of the photos that I took! So big apologies to @richard_meaghan and @jonathanrbennett for not portraying your fantastic work better. I am so delighted to be in this three person show alongside such exciting art and as alumni of Contemporary Art Acafemy @contemporaryartacademy .

If you find yourself in central London please do drop by @gps_creates to see the exhibition in person. It is open Monday - Friday 10am-5pm Gramercy Park Studios, 25 Great Pulteney Street, Soho W1F 9LT until Friday 6th March.

Please DM if you would like any more information about the show.

Catherine Lette’s work centres on the figure under pressure—fragmented, disassembled, or in states of uneasy adaptation. Drawing from personal experience, her paintings explore how domestic, rural, virtual, and imagined environments shape both body and mind.

Thank you Vanessa for including my work in the wonderful Irving Open @irving.gallery. It was a packed PV and so lovely to see such an array of incredible artwork… if I was able to I would have collected all of it!

These photos don’t begin to do the works justice so apologies to the artists, it was hard to squeeze round people to take any worthy images. I also don’t have all the details so I’ve tagged images off the top of my head including just a few of the amazing 98 artists exhibiting. Much better idea is to hop down to Oxford to check it out. It was lovely to see old friends & meet new too.
