A new restoration of one of my favourite films, Powell & Pressburger’s Gone to Earth, with the luminous Jennifer Jones, is showing this evening at @britishfilminstitute London Film Festival. I battled to get a ticket but have managed to catch a nasty cold so can’t make it 😭
To console myself here are some Gone to Earth related artworks

If you would like more JJ and Gone to Earth read my essay in the first issue of @spectralfilmjournal a new online film journal - link in bio

Proud that my essay ‘Passion, Wildness and Metamorphosis in Gone to Earth’ is in the inaugural issue of @spectralfilmjournal which investigates Desire.

The second slide features a quote from Mary Webb’s beautiful and devastating 1917 novel Gone to Earth which I use in the essay.

Congratulations to @jaclyn_bethany & @irene.frax on bringing Spectral into the world. You can read the first issue for free. Link in my bio.

And I am so happy that a new restoration of Gone to Earth is showing at this year’s @britishfilminstitute London Film Festival

‘The Wrong Kind of Woman’ (detail) one of a number of new paintings I’m working on for my upcoming show Reflexion which opens on 26 September at @worthingmuseum

Cine literate viewers will recognise Judy Barton, as played by Kim Novak, in Hitchcock’s 1958 film Vertigo. On 12 November I’m going to be giving a talk at the gallery before introducing Vertigo at Worthing’s Connaught Cinema. Link to the event in my bio.

Reflexion, which opens on 26 September at @worthingmuseum brings together painting, installation, video, and found objects to explore the captivating power of film and the image of the star. Focusing on the mirror as a central motif, the exhibition considers how cinema invites us to reflect on ourselves, imagine new identities, and momentarily step into other lives.

It will also feature contributions by Alex Michon @alexmichon1968 and Tamar Jeffers McDonald @tamarjm2020 , alongside a programme of talks, workshops and screenings of films (including Vertigo, Gone to Earth and Letty Lynton).
