Happy Global Running Day! ( to those who celebrate!) If you asked me my perspective on running before 2017, I would say it was a means to an end. It helped me get exercise , burn off all this extra drinking and eating calories, and it only made sense if you’re training for a race. Fast forward now, my perspective has changed on running and it has changed my perspective on life. What was just a means to an end is now one of the things I use to center myself and bring more focus. Not only do I find my reset during my long runs to realign my posture and vision, I’ve found ways to reset myself in my daily life. It’s not always about just staying on pace. It’s about learning and reflecting on why your pace might have differed. It helped me literally and figuratively focus on completing the mile at hand . Just returned from the 2025 Affinity Funds Summit hosted by The Chicago Community Trust—and I’m feeling energized, inspired, and deeply connected.

The day was filled with powerful sessions that blended strategy, storytelling, and skill-building. One standout was the workshop on building community wealth, where we explored models like worker cooperatives, shared equity housing, and community investment vehicles—real tools for community-led change.

Other highlights included:

• Governance insights from the LGBTQ Community Fund
• Fundraising strategies using matching gifts from Asian Giving Circle and LGBTQ Community Fund
• A collaborative brainstorm with the Disabilities Fund on cross-fund partnerships
• And a heartfelt session on starting your own giving circle—because big change often starts small.

It was also great to connect with the incredible staff from The Chicago Community Trust—thank you for creating space for learning, reflection, and collective action.

Grateful to be in community with these inspiring affinity funds:

What a difference 8 years makes. I last ran @soldierfield10 in 2017. That race was probably my worst race I can remember. It was hot, I was aching , and I didn’t have a great time. That was also my last race before I started training with @chicagoendurancesports . Fast forward to 2025, and I’ve build up my endurance, strength, confidence, a made a bunch of great friends, and I really love running . ( something my 2017 self wouldn’t say ) . Running changes everything. Here’s to doing it as long as I can!
