Meanwhile, the fossil fuel economy that has driven the climate crisis has generated enormous wealth for corporations, investors, and countries that have benefited most from centuries of extraction in the Global South.'.

Most importantly, the scale of the destruction of the glacier collapse is political. It is shaped by a warming planet, by where people are forced to live, by unequal access to resources, and by an economic system that continues to prioritize extraction and profit over ecological limits. The profits are concentrated among a few. Yet the consequences are everywhere.'.

May be an image of poster, magazine and text that says 'jepestela ela Isn't it crazy that fossil fuel companies can still extract billions in profit while affected communities are left to evacuate, rebuild, mourn, and start again, only to be told to become more "resilient" to a crisis they barely contributed to creating?'.

May be an image of garbage and text that says 'jepostela Maybe that's why we should start naming these climate disasters after the companies and executives that continue to profit from destroying the environment. We have spent decades knowing what burning fossil fuels would do, yet we ordinary people were gaslighted to reduce our carbon footprint and throw away our trash in proper bins, but those with the most power to change course have continued to invest in and profit from the system.'.

Climate justice cannot simply mean giving vulnerable countries money to adapt while fossil fuel extraction continues. We should stop the source of the crisis.'.

May be an image of magazine, newspaper and text that says 'The Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage exists precisely to help vulnerable developing countries respond to the economic and non-economic losses and damages associated with the climate crisis. But establishing the Fund is not enough. Communities cannot rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and futures on empty promises and voluntary pledges. The Fund needs to be adequately, predictably, and equitably financed, and those who have profited most from the fossil fuel economy must pay.'.

UNGA, CBD COP17, and COP31 cannot become another round of conferences where vulnerable countries are asked to sit and wait while fossil-fuel interests continue business as usual, even as communities across the Global South are already suffering the devastating impacts of the climate crisis. These spaces must deliver meaningful progress on biodiversity protection, loss and damage finance, adaptation finance, and the transition away from fossil fuels.'.

Nepal’s disaster hits home as someone who survived a climate disaster in 2009 and from a country who is also on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

It gives us a glimpse of the carnage that the climate crisis could cause which is our reality now. And there will be more. So when next climate disasters hit, we shouldn’t just ask, “What happened?” We should ask “Who profited from making this possible? And how do we hold them accountable?”

We should also target animal agriculture industry which contributes around 14.5% of global green house gas emission. Every deforestation in the name of animal husbandry, every drop of water used for the animals who were forcefully bred, every consumer who supports this industry by consuming more animal products. All are to blame on top of the people whom you mentioned.
