A Season of Light

There are so many things to do
But only doing them with dignity matters
There are so many people to thank
But only thanking them with love matters
There is so much good to see
But only seeing it from the heart matters
There is so much pain to absorb
But only holding it together matters

There is so much joy to feel
But only letting it seep into our bones matters
There is so much hunger for change
But only awakening ourselves matters
There is so much light within us
But only letting the light out matters
There is so much faith in our souls
But only following it matters

There is so much left to be said
But only saying it with dignity matters

So try on what matters.
Try on dignity.
Try on gratitude with love.
Try on seeing from the heart.
Try on sharing your worries and holding your pain with others.

Try on joy in your bones.
Try on awakening.
Try on letting your light shine.
Try on following your faith.

And try on treating everyone with dignity. The person who lights the lamp of your heart. The person who nurses the baby in the manger. The person who brings gifts. And especially the person who says “Bah. Humbug.”

Try on dignity for everyone.

Isn’t that the message of the ages we’re all hungering to live?

This is the season of light in the darkness. Don’t just celebrate it. Try to be it.
