2 years agoMy son, Harry, and I produce a weekly podcast called ‘why weight to change’ where we discuss his 10-year battle with anorexia, body dysmorphia, suicide ideation and comorbid mental health issues. Our aim is to break the stigma around discussions on mental health, and coping with feelings of uncertainty, discomfort, unworthiness and anxiety that many men experience but are conditioned to 'not express' for fear of being discerned as ‘weak’ or ‘unmanly’. We are attempting to expose the dangers that this kind of gender stereotyping places on men which can so easily lead to the tragic consequences of eating disorders, addiction and suicide. We hope that Harry’s experience can contribute to the narrative on eating disorders, suicide ideation and comorbid disorders (particularly in men), because there is such a paucity of support in this field for men to rely upon. “Thank you” for the critical work you do protecting young people, and their through your vital channel @wearebey0nd 🙏.
